The Second week in Term two will contain an oral assessment task that we have to work up to in the end of Term 1.
For week 7 and 8, you will still be talking about destinations.
Choose a destination (a place) you have travelled to and have a strong feeling or knowledge about.
CONTEXT: You will be placed with a partner. You are both travelers who are sitting next to each other at an airport. You are both returning from your different destinations. You are strangers in a casual atmosphere. You engage in conversation. Each one of you must inform and describe your experiences from your particular destination, and you must persuade the other to try going to where you have been.
Make notes/gather information and fact about the place you choose, and also make notes about your own experiences and memories of the place. You will need ready knowledge when the time comes. You may in the meantime have practice conversations with other classmates
Things to know about your destination. If you can describe these things (and ask others about them) you will have a great oral converation:
- The food
- The weather
- The place you stayed
- The people you met
- The sights (buildings, monuments, parks, infrastructure)
- The shopping
- The cost of things
- The entertainment
- The recreation
- How you got around
- The arts and cultural attractions
- The dangers or things to be aware of
- Clarity and pronunciation
- Fluent language use
- Use of colorful and descriptive language.
- providing insightful information that goes beyond the obvious
- Ask and answer open-ended questions, and follow-up questions
This will be between (+ or -) four and eight minutes of conversation total.
You will not know your “partner” until the time comes. You do need to practice your converation and time yourselves with classmetes before the actual spontaneous conversation.
These will be recorded for you to listen to and review. No notes. Just chat.
Tuesday the 13th – notes and thoughts on your destination. Begin chat with classmate. Time yourselves.
Wednesday the 14th – Conversation with three classmates
Video conversations on Thursday the 15th.
PRONUNCIATION IS IMPORTANT!!!
